Get Ready For Bestival Camping

Friday, August 17th, 2012

As we plough towards the balmy late summer days, there will be one festival being spoken about more than any other between live music lovers – Bestival!

This year, Bestival will rock the Isle Of Man between the 6th and 9th of September – a four day smorgasbord of acts to suit even the most eclectic of music tastes.

The majority of Bestival goers choose to camp over the long weekend as it’s included in the ticket price. There are plenty of campsites to choose from, all colour coded, so you don’t get lost. If you like your sleep then it’s worth noting that the blue campsite is designated as the ‘quiet zone’ – no loud parties in the wee small hours in here!

As usual, getting prepared for a festival camping weekend is a necessity.

As folk are working to tighter budgets why not make the best out of one of our camping bundles and save yourself some cash which you can then spend on more beer.

Our VW Tent with FREE camping bundle will save you £90. Not only do you receive a very cool and fun VW tent but we’ll also throw in 2 of our Modest Sleeping Bags and a Silicon Folding Camping Kettle absolutely free!

Talking of sleeping bags, check out our Comfy Single Square Sleeping Bag and Comfy Double Square Sleeping Bag (if you prefer snuggling up with someone during Bestival). Both are made from the highest quality of materials and their season ratings qualify them as ideal to use throughout the year.

Hands-up, everybody who has pitched a tent, then bedded down for the night to find that Mother Natures mattress isn’t quite as comfy as it looks. Well, if your goingto Bestival this summer then make sure your stay is as comfortable as can be with our Double Inflatable Camping Beds – comes with a built in foot pump so no need to dawdle getting it inflated.

We’ve noticed more and more our Musuc Bags becoming quite the ‘cool thing to be seen in’ at music festivals over the years and no doubt Bestival will keep this trend going in the right direction… You can get your own Musuc Bag by clicking here.

Bugs Aplenty at VW Festival

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

vw festival 2012Since 2005, Harewood House just North of Leeds has hosted one of the most vibrant, fun loving festivals – yet, only a minority of people know of its existence… I’m talking about the VW Festival where for a few days in August, Volkswagen lovers, old and new, descend on this part of North Yorkshire to go bananas over Herbie lookalikes.

If you’re an avid reader of our Blog, then you’ll know that we like to highlight festivals not just fully focussed on music and the VW Festival ticks all the right boxes.

The 2012 VW Festival has extended its camping night to include Friday night as well as Saturday. The full weekend show offers trade stands, VW club stands, a live graffiti display, live bands, fun fair and loads of entertainment for the kids.

Last year there were just short of 10,000 people visited the VW Festival, not all camping though as a good majority of the crowd opt for the day pass option.

There is a family friendly campsite, separate from the main campsite, where the rules are a bit stricter, obviously, as it is for families only. Why not set-up with our very own VW Camper lifesize tent to get really in the party atmosphere.

Tickets for the VW Festival are really affordable with a Weekend Ticket (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) setting an Adult back just £35. Weekend tickets for kids aged 13 – 16 years will cost £20 and children Under 13 are FREE!

You can of-course opt for a Day Ticket and this will cost £12 for an Adult, £6 for 13-16 year olds and again kids Under 13 get in for FREE!

The VW Festival encourages all those visiting to dress up in fancy dress – the theme for the 2012 VW Festival is Beach! Think dodgy Hawiian shirts, flowery bermuda shorts and open toed sanadals (socks are optional).

Walk Like A Zombie!

Friday, May 11th, 2012

zombie walksFlash mobs are an off-spin from our social media age, groups of people gather quickly in a designated area, ‘do something’ then disperse as quickly as they arrived. Normally, flash mobs arise from Facebook or Twitter, sometimes they’re even organised by advertising brands as a form of guerilla marketing.

However, from the culture of flash mobs, some gatherings have proved popular and are now turning into annual events held throughout towns and cities across the world.

One gathering, which has caught the imagination of many is the Zombie Walk!

The Zombie Walk events, which were first popular in America have spread across the pond and are now becoming more frequent in the UK and mainland Europe. They’ve even spawned off-shoots such as Zombie Pub Crawls.

Zombies Like Guinness

These Zombie Walks now have their own Guinness World Record as to how many zombies join in with the ‘walk’ or ‘crawl’. The first attempt back in 2006 attracted 894 people outside a Mall (of-course) in Pittsburgh, USA.

Since then many cities across the world have held that ‘prestigious’ Guinness World Record for the biggest Zombie Walk including Brisbane, Australia and Nottingham in the UK.

Dublin, New York and Long Beach, California all held Zombie Walks with crowds of zombies estimated to be around 8,000-10,000. But none of them was officialy recognised by Guiness.

In November last year, Mexico claimed the official Guiness World Record for the most zombies in a Zombie Walk – 9,806 to be exact!

Zombies The Future

As the Zombie Walk events continue to grow (doubling in size almost yearly) – organisers look to campsites to help offer cheaper accomodation for those who wish to participate in the fun.

At Sleeping Bag Suits we stock a large selection of tents, camping gear, sleeping bags and our world famous Musuc Bags – even the undead like to keep warm and snug at night!

Tips To Become A Realistic Zombie

Zombies like make-up, so take pride in applying your ghoulish look – do it right – do it for the screams.

Get your Zombie Walk down to a tee, remember Zombies don’t do swaggers nor do they walk with their hands stuffed in their pockets. Leg dragging is good, outstretched arms also hit the right note but not too Mummy or Frankensteinesque… Your a Zombie! You live(?) For Brains.

Zombies don’t talk, they groan, moan and make a lot of gargling noises… Remember try to stay in character during the course of the whole Zombie Walk… Go knock them dead!

Are Music Festivals A Rite Of Passage?

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Everything seems so fast nowadays… And that goes for growing up as well. One moment you’re telling your kid that everything is going to be ok as they cling madly onto yourself on their first day of school and the next, you’re barely visible to them, as you shuttle them around from one place to the next in your newfound role as Dad’s Taxi Service.

This is the modern way that we have been accustomed too…

Festival Camping On A Budget

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

We all know the economy is in a bit of a ‘sticky wicket‘ just now and the downside to this is more folks have less cash to spend on doing things they enjoy… Such as getting to those summer festivals we’ve all become familiar with, over the years.

Festivals haven’t been recession-proof either, and over the last few months quite a few big and not-so-big festivals have announced they won’t be making an appearance this year or have folded altogether.

Musuc Bag Family Fun At Camp Bestival

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

camp bestival 2012If you’re looking for family-friendly festival fun over the Summer months then one of the most-talked about and award-winning festival weekends has to be Camp Bestival.

This year, Camp Bestival, takes place on the 26th, 27th, 28th & 29th of July. It’s hosted on the grounds of picturesque Lulworth Castle in Dorset.

Camp Bestival is an amalgamation of the old ‘Hi-de-hi‘ Holiday parks of yesteryear (Camp Bestival even has its own Blue Coats), camping, caravanning and motorhome campsites, summer fetes, the circus, theme parks and music festivals all mashed together but done tastefully.

Families looking to ‘escape‘ for a long weekend of fun should really consider booking themselves into Camp Bestival. There is plenty of accomodation on offer from luxury tipis, yurts, podpads bellepads, gypsy caravans, a double decker bus, Campervans, Motorhomes or just pack up your own tent, and head along.

Olympic Camping

Friday, March 30th, 2012

This Summer the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will descend on London and it is expected an extra 4 million visitors will visit over the period the games are running.

All of these Olympiad visitors need somewhere to stay and a good majority of them will vouch to camp during their visit instead of paying overpriced hotel and B&B prices.

There are many legitimate Olympic Camping amd Motorhome sites set-up to cope with the influx of visitors. These sites can charge anywhere between £20 and £40 per night to pitch your tent.

You can even hire tents from some campsites to help cut down on the gear you’ll be travelling with.

Many of these Olympic campsites will offer live entertainment during the evenings plus bus services to and from the train stations which will take you to the Olympic events.

The weather around the London and the South East during late July and Mid August can be hot and humid. But be prepared, as it can be unpredictable at times. Which makes it ideal weather for our Musuc Bag Lite sleeping suit.

The Musuc Bag Lite is more appropriate for indoor use and spring/summer time wear. It’s also easier to store and carry as it isn’t as puffy. Beacuse the Musuc Bag Lite is less bulky than the Musuc Bag Classic it means you have the mobility of an Olympic athlete.

If you’re one of the hundred of thousands of visitors who’ll be opting for camping during your Olympic stay then think about purchasing a Musuc Bag Lite.

If they gave out Gold Medals for a sleeping bag that gave you a comfortable and great night sleep while camping then the Musuc Bag Lite would be top of the podium.
